Facade GrantsThe Nazareth Economic Development Commission continues to implement a facade grant program with funding from Northampton County GrowNORCO program. GrowNORCO is a competitive grant that Northampton County offers annually for non-profits and municipalities to make improvements to their communities. The Facade grant program offered by the NEDC is targeted in downtown business district. The specifics of the facade program may vary slightly from year to year (dependent upon funding). The main objective is to provide matching funding to improve the exterior of downtown buildings. All projects will conform to the US Department of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings. The historic character of downtown Nazareth is a source of pride for the entire community. The ability to preserve our architecture is a priority of the NEDC and the community. The NEDC will take an active role in assisting the property owners with project development and contractor bidding. The success of rehabilitation is based on active management of the project. Property owners that are not experienced or comfortable with project management will have support. Generally, funding is announced in January and applicants are able to submit a Letter of Intent. This will give the NEDC a general outline of the proposed improvements and costs. These will be reviewed by a sub-committee of the board and approved by the full Board of Directors. Selected projects will be invited to complete a full application. Funding will be approved and construction shortly after. Projects must be completed by October and applicants will be reimbursed by the end of the year. Check back here for our “Funding Available” announcement.
